Parent School Climate Survey

The Department of Education invites you to play an important role in your child’s education. By completing The School Climate Survey, you are giving your school, your school district, and the provincial government information on your thoughts and feelings regarding your child’s school and your child’s school life. This information will help to gauge the quality of education you believe your child is receiving and where improvements, if any, need to be made.

The parent/guardian survey, on average, should take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. Responses are confidential and your name will not be linked to your results. All reporting will be done on a school, district, or province level. Individual responses will not be presented. Results will not be released in cases where school demographics may lead to the ability to identify respondents (less than 6 respondents).

The School Climate Survey is an opportunity to provide your voice to the future of education in your child’s school, community, and province.

You can access the survey online by clicking here

Please complete the survey by Friday, March 27th, 2015.

Thank you for your continued support.

Students often dress in semi-formal attire but it is not necessary that they do so. Please note that students must be picked up by their parents/guardians at the end of the night. Party busses/limousines are not permitted.

Student of the Month Launch

As a new component to our Safe and Caring School Development goal, it is hoped that this initiative will to raise awareness of our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) program as students who demonstrate Respect for Learning, Respect for the Environment, Respect for Others and Respect for Self are recognized.  Last month saw the launch of the Student of the Month program with the December theme of Caring.  Students and staff nominated students and from those nominations, one student was selected from each homeroom.  These students are highlighted in a bulletin board display located on the main floor.  Please note that parents are also welcome to contact the school to nominate a particular student.

January’s theme is:  Nutrition/Health Choices.

Book Fair

Frank Roberts Junior High will be hosting its annual Scholastic Book Fair from December 1 – 4. All students will have an opportunity to visit the Learning Resource Centre to view and purchase books during this time. Parents can view and purchase books from 2:20 – 2:45 pm on these days and during Parent/Teacher Interviews scheduled for Thursday, December 4th. This is a good opportunity to get some great reading material and/or purchase Christmas gifts. The books are well priced and there is a great selection available. Please avail of the opportunity to obtain reading material for your son or daughter, or even yourself and help support Frank Roberts Junior High at the same time. Hope to see you there.

Male staff members at Frank Roberts Jr. High have banded together to participate in the global movement Movember – a unique initiative whereby men through the growing of a moustache during the month of November raise funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer. Mo Bros, as they are internationally referred, effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Through their actions and words, they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

The funds raised are directed to programs run directly by the Movember Foundation and their health partner, Prostate Cancer Canada. Together, the two channels work to ensure that Movember funds are supporting a broad range of innovative, world-class programs in the areas of awareness and education, survivorship and research.

If you would like to support this very worthy cause please check out our team Franks Fuzzy Ravens. Thank you for your support.

Fundraising Update

Our Catalogue Fundraiser is now complete. The shipment of goods will arrive later this month and will be distributed when it arrives. An email will be sent to you when the order arrives and the order will be sent home with your child. If the order is large you may wish to arrange for your child to be picked up at school rather than transport it on the bus.

Thank you to our students and their families for supporting our fundraising efforts. Through your hard work, over $18,000 worth of product was sold. The school receives approximately 45% of this amount. As incentives to the students, fundraising prizes will be awarded: each seller will receive a ticket for every $25.00 worth of merchandise they sold. The tickets are for the chance to win a new mini iPad . As well, the top three sellers will receive cash prizes. These prizes will be awarded after the orders have arrived and are distributed. A big thank you to everyone who helped.

The profits from this fundraiser will allow us to purchase a remotely controlled screen and some chairs for the gym.

Professional Development Day

There will be no classes for students on Friday, December 5 as there is a professional development day scheduled for teachers. Classes will resume again on Monday, December 8. It will be Day 3 on your child’s schedule.
