Trail of the Caribou 2016: Beaumont-Hamel to Amsterdam
An incredible journey lasts a lifetime in the many stories and pictures you bring home. Get ready for a trip that will change your life and teach you to experience the world around you with more independence, confidence and knowledge. This nine day tour travels through Belgium, France and The Netherlands.
At the Beaumont-Hamel Memorial in France, a great bronze caribou overlooks a deadly battleground where the Royal Newfoundland Regiment launched their offensive on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, July 1, 1916. At the base of the memorial, three bronze tablets carry the names of brave Newfoundlanders who gave their lives in the First World War. The spectacular memorials and cemeteries, including Menin Gate and Tyne Cot, are symbols of the sacrifices of our ancestors and the respect Europeans have for Canada.
