Amalgamated's Virtual Media Festival (AVFM):

In April several students from Frank Roberts Junior High appeared in the Amalgamated Academy Virtual Media Festival. Video submissions were made by Daniel Trenhom, Matthew Snooks, Mitchell Fagan and Madison Gregory. Animation submissions were made by Anne Ploetner, Bethany Brenton, Kristyn Chaffey and Emily Trenholm. Photography submissions were made by Charli Ball, Lauren Pecore and Elizabeth Cadigan.

All entries were very well received by the judges with Emily Trenholm and Anne Ploetner finishing in 1st place. By doing so they each won an iPad and the school wins a computer work station. Here is a link where you can view their award winning animation:

 Notes:

i.)        Grade 9 students:  Exams begin on June 11 for Grade 9 French Immersion students.  All other grade nine students begin exams on Tuesday, June 12.

ii.)       Grade 8 students:  Exams begin on June 12.

iii.)              Grade 7 students:  Exams begin on June 12 for Grade 7 French Immersion students.  For English stream students supervised study sessions will begin on June 12 and exams begin on Wednesday, June 13.

iv.)               If your  child does not have an exam scheduled in a particular slot and you feel they  would study better at home, please feel free to allow them to do so.  If this is your wish please send a note to your child’s homeroom teacher to inform them of your decision.

v.)                If your child misses an exam due to illness, a doctor’s note is required.

vi.)               Busses will run on their regular schedule during exam week.  With a note from their parents, students will be permitted to be picked up at the end of the exam session if they do not have another exam scheduled in the afternoon.

Underwater Robotics Update:

The competition has been re-scheduled for Sunday, May 6th.  Please check Mr. Sheppard's homework page (http://www.fris.k12.nf.ca/tsheppard/) for my information.

The following is our schedule for the day:

• Marine Institute - Sunday, May 6, 2012 - 8:00 am - 5:00 pm;

• Arrival/Registration - 8:00 am;

• Safety Checks - 8:00 am;

• Opening Ceremonies - 8:45 am;

• Buoyancy Check / Practice - 9:20 & 10:20 am;

• Mission - Inflate Lift Bags - 12:00 & 1:00 pm;

• Mission - Coral & Oil  - 2:00 pm & 3:00pm;

• Clea-up - 3:40 pm;

• Closing Ceremonies - 4:00 pm;

• Departure - 5:00 pm.

The competition is open to the public and there is a viewing area where you can see the robots attempting the missions.
